The Association's activities can be divided into three areas...
Firstly, the Association is in effect a trade body representing the interests of companies working in and around the Port of Bristol, (including Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Docks), and port users in general. As an Association we deal with matters of common interest to our membership in respect of the workings of the Port of Bristol and any other wider issues which have a bearing on our member’s activities within the Port. We make representations to the relevant authorities within the Port of Bristol and elsewhere in respect of any matters of concern to our members in conjunction with the port and civic authorities, we also actively seek to promote the interests of the Port of Bristol, whose continuing prosperity is naturally of benefit to all our members.
Secondly, we are proud to be able to support a number of charitable causes, mainly within the merchant maritime sector. We are particularly proud to say that in recent years we have become a major contributor to the funding of The Port of Bristol Seafarers Centre at Portbury, which plays a vital role in supporting the welfare of the merchant seaman visiting our Port. This has become an increasingly important part of our activities, and a significant proportion of our levies are now ear-marked specifically for the Seafarers Centre.
Thirdly, we hold regular events throughout the year. This includes our annual dinner which is an important showpiece for the Association, our members and the Port of Bristol in general. We also hold a number of events including Evening Cruises in the City Docks and Clay Pigeon Shoots which has proved to be a highly popular event with our members and guests. To celebrate our centenary year in 2007, the Association hosted members and guests on board the M.V. “Balmoral” in a cruise from Avonmouth up the River Avon to the old Bristol City Docks and back. This was a highly successful event for all who attended. The Association also holds quarterly meetings every year, plus an annual general meeting. In between meetings, any matters of relevance are circulated to members by email.
